Pick up notes, skips, drops
A pickup note (or skip) is a note that precede the downbeat in a bar. A drop is a note that comes right after the downbeat in a bar and is ususally a 6th - a drop down to the 3rd of the chord. Demonstration and explanation.
About the instructor
Bruce Gertz is an award-winning bassist (acoustic and electric), composer, educator, and author. He is a professor of bass at Berklee College of Music, where he has taught since 1976.
