Darius Brubeck Lesson time: (14min 35sec)

Now we're beginning to use the vocabulary that professional musicians use. There are 3 symbolic systems used simulatenously when it comes to describing harmony concepts: 1.Roman numerals that refer to scale degree, 2.Arabic numerals that refer to intervals, and 3.alphabetical symbols that refer to the root of the chord. Chord function refers to the role that a particular chord plays in the creation of a larger harmonic progression. Darius uses the classic tunes Swing Low Sweet Chariot (chord I IV & V examples) and Summer Song to bring these concepts to life.
