Playing with music
So far we've covered phrasing and timing but at no point so far have I directly referred to the most important aspect of playing an instrument: music. If you were to play a fill with the best timing in the world but in the wrong place in the music, then all of your hard work will have been completely wasted and no one will call you up to play any credible gigs. You want to play? Well, get listening. From here on in, all of your fills must be played with music.
