Joe draws his major influences from players like Billy Preston, Booker T Jones, Ray Charles, Jimmy McGriff, Steve Winwood, Richard Tee and Leon Russell, also New Orleans pianists such as Dr John and James Booker. Among the artists he's worked with are Tom Jones, Laura Mvula, Van Morrison and many, many more.
In this course, Joe will give you a deep understanding of the sounds of the Hammond Organ and how to play authenticly in the Soul, Jazz and Gospel styles, using classic tunes featuring the great Hammond players of the 50s, 60s and 70s by artist such as Marvin Gaye, Booker T and the MGs and Brother Jack McDuff.
Students will learn:
- the different sounds of the Hammond Organ
- how to decide which sound to use for different playing situations
- how and when to use the Leslie speaker
- classic tunes on the Hammond Organ including: Hush (Deep Purple), Rhythm & Blues at the Flamingo (Georgie Fame), On the Green Light (Spencer Davis Group)
